My trip to the coffee shop became a new low for me when I had to admit to myself that I just paid $5.35 for a cup of coffee. If I admitted that I went 6 times in a month, that’s a whopping $32.10 per month and $385.20 per year!
As the Executive Director of Home of Hope at Gwinnett Children’s Shelter, I was running the costs of helping our homeless young moms and children here in Gwinnett. I quickly found that my $32.00 per month could go a whole lot farther than the cup of coffee in my hand. I feel inspired knowing that my $32.00 can really help keep a roof over the heads of homeless young families. It helps keep food on the table and gas in the vehicles that take them to appointments. It helps keep house staff who oversee our programs which help our children feel safe, loved and secure so they are free to be happy children.
That same $32.00 per month that could help our homeless children and their young mothers here at Home of Hope at Gwinnett Children’s Shelter could also help other children and other non-profits.
We are all candles …. A shimmer of light and hope in the lives of those in need.
If children with life-threatening illness calls to your heart, put your coffee aside and send your donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. A child with a life-threatening illness will get state of the art care and no one ever gets turned away because of their inability to pay. A family in need will never get a bill. This is God’s work. The way he intended us to help one another.
How about Make A Wish? Granting wishes to children with life-threatening illness….the joy you can spread by giving up coffee shop coffee.
I mention these two organizations because they are dear to my heart. I have a daughter who is now a cancer survivor and a former “Wish Kid.”
All of the great non-profits in our community could use your “coffee commitment.” Will you pledge your $30.00 a month to make a difference in the life of a child? Visit our donations page to make your pledge today. If another agency calls to your heart, do it and help us uplift other great organizations.
It costs a candle nothing to light another candle. Let’s work together to keep Gwinnett great!
