Thirty years ago, Home of Hope at Gwinnett Children’s Shelter started with the vision of transforming the way homelessness is looked at by the public eye, and has evolved to actually change the way homelessness is dealt with. Our proactive approach to ending homelessness requires so much time, effort, and funding in order to be implemented, but the results speak for themselves. What sets us apart in being able to achieve this lasting change? The answer is our customized Life Plans tailored to each individual guest here at Home of Hope.

Our customized Life Plans may never be able to help thousands of kids and mothers at a time, and it is not meant to. Lasting change is the result of focused efforts and comprehensive interaction with our guests. Our Life Plans become a part of our guests lives in a way that plants the seed for eventual self-sustainment. By providing guidance in areas of finance, employment, time management, spiritual health, and more, we are able to transform our guests’ outlook and take them from homeless, to hopeful, to a home of their own.
Another unique attribute of our Life Plans is the time and guidance offered by our many volunteers and donors. Beyond the generous financial givings, our friends invest much of their time, skills, and knowledge into making these life plans what they are. As successful persons in business, law, teaching, and other forums, our friends realize that often the most valuable thing that can be provided to a guest is spending time with them, giving them a reason for hope. Guests are afforded the unique opportunity to learn from our friends, who are industry leaders in many of the areas which our life plans cover. In this way, guests can see teaching in action and be encouraged that what they are learning produces positive and lifelong change.

There is no simple way to reverse the evils of homelessness, but there is a way. The easy route provides only temporary relief…our Life Plans are not easy, but they are effective. Our Home of Hope at Gwinnett Children’s Shelter is perpetually driven to follow this path no matter how cumbersome the obstacles become, because it is our mission to end homelessness for this generation and for all future generations. This is done one dollar at a time, one day at a time, one family at a time.
